The Chicago City Day School was founded in 1981 to provide superb educational opportunities for Chicago families. Committed to the principle that small schools provide large opportunities for children, City Day limits its enrollment to 275 pupils in junior (4-year-old) kindergarten through eighth grade. In an environment that celebrates the exuberance of childhood, The Chicago City Day School offers a program that is rigorous and nurturing. The School recognizes the varying abilities of the children it serves and places a high premium on the academic achievement of every student.
At City Day, to ensure a close relationship between teachers and
students, class size is limited to 10 in kindergarten, 20 in grades
first through eighth. All of the Schools instructional programs
begin in junior kindergarten. In each grade, homeroom teachers provide
instruction in reading, mathematics, language arts, and social studies.
Instruction in French, Spanish, laboratory science, art, music,
creative dramatics, computer science, industrial arts, and physical
education is provided at all levels by specialists. Frequent field
trips throughout the Chicago area supplement the curriculum and
help children develop an awareness of the vitality of city living.
A skilled and devoted faculty is the Schools richest asset. Only
experienced teachers who have earned at least a masters degree
are invited to join Chicago City Day Schools faculty.
